Privacy and Confidentiality
Telephone Calls
To protect the privacy of your personal and family health information, the telephone number for My Family RN does not connect to the internet. It is for talking and short texting (SMS) only. Using only telephone calls also protects the privacy of your home.
If you send a long text or photo, the information (data) is not sent over telephone lines. The privacy of this information is not protected.
My Family RN is a 24/7 telephone service. For protection of your privacy, I use Bluetooth technology to listen to you. No one else can hear what you say. Your voice goes directly into the Bluetooth device in my ears. If possible, I will move to a place where what I say to you also cannot be overheard. Because of using Bluetooth technology, when you call I might ask you to wait for a few minutes for me to set up the Bluetooth system. Especially if you hear noise in the background, I might also say to you that I am moving to a private place where what I am saying to you will not be overheard either.
Your electronic health record
I will keep a record of the general topics we talk about in an electronic health record. This is a document created only by My Family RN. I do not have your general medical record or any information you do not give me by our telephone conversation. Government HIPAA requirements for privacy and confidentiality are met by keeping the records on an external drive that has security protections.
